Evening on the Lake, The Adirondack Park

Evening on the Lake, The Adirondack Park

Brand new, original photograph by John Gates

Evening On The Lake was taken from the boat launch on Seventh Lake, in the Fulton Chain of lakes.

The Fulton Chain consists of several lakes, named First, Second, Third, etc. These lakes
are arranged in a more or less straight line between Old Forge and Raquette Lake.

The day I took this picture, I had hiked up Sawyer Mountain. off Route 30 just North of
Indian Lake Village. I was disappointed that I didn't get any good pictures on the hike.

When I got back to my car, I noticed some interesting clouds coming in from the West.
It was getting late in the day and I thought if I could get a clear view to the West maybe
I could get a nice sunset picture. I checked my map and realized that if I drove up to Blue
Mountain Lake and took the left turn onto Route 28 towards Old Forge, I would pass several
of the Fulton Chain Lakes on my right. These Lakes could provide a clear view to the West
towards the evening Sunset.

As the Sun dipped, I arrived at the Seventh Lake boat launch. At the boat launch there is
a pier that extends out into the lake. I was able to set up my tripod on the pier, low so
I could sit comfortably behind the camera. After hiking, it was very nice to relax on the
pier and watch the entire sunset, snapping several pictures over 30 or 40 minutes. From
time to time a boat would pass by, creating some waves and ripples in the water that would
catch the colors of the setting sun.

For me, this was the perfect way to spend the evening!

Adirondack Prints Incorporated offers prints and framed prints from throughout the Adirondack Park, featuring the award winning photography of John Gates.

At over six million acres, upstate New York's Adirondack Park is the largest park in the continental 48 states. About three million acres within the park are designated as "Forever Wild" wilderness areas.

Several years ago, photographer John Gates started offering his unique Adirondack pictures under the Adirondack Prints brand.

The sheer size of the Adirondack Park (larger than the State of Vermont), with about 100 peaks over 1,200 feet and over 2,000 lakes, provides a limitless supply of picture opportunities for anyone who loves photographing the great outdoors.

Mr. Gates's pictures are very popular at gift shops, galleries, and art shows, and have won numerous awards. While his style and technique are always evolving, the diversity of his subjects continues. In his own words, "The opportunities for fine art photography are infinite. The pictures are always there, all around us, every day. The biggest challenge is to slow down our lives, our brains, enough to see the beautiful pictures that are right in front us."
